Now I get it!

I've never really understood the appeal of pundits like Rush Limbaugh or Ann Coulter. I don't really see the point in dissmissing out of hand the opinions of anyone who doesn't agree with you. Or saying things like "The essence of being a liberal: “The absolute conviction that there is one set of rules for you, and another, completely different set of rules for everyone else.” Really... no. But if you want to believe that, i'm not going to stop you because you must be an idiot and therefore not worth my time.

But today I finally get it, it is so nice to have sharp wit and rhetoric turned against someone you dislike:

I eagerly await the announcement of President Bush's real nominee to the Supreme Court. If the president meant Harriet Miers seriously, I have to assume Bush
wants to go back to Crawford and let Dick Cheney run the country.
I expect this will be the only time Ann Coulter is quoted on this blog or that I actually utter her name. Because truly, she is evil. But I give her props for standing up and not drinking the kool-aid on this one. And she managed to not make blanket accusations against liberals too, wow. I'll bet some people are pissed.

Much as i know you dislike my posting here, and fully aware that you ignore and dismiss out of hand anything anywone says with which you do not agree....

"I don't really see the point in dissmissing out of hand the opinions of anyone who doesn't agree with you."

I quite agree. to back you up, let me hunt around the 'net for an obvious example. Wait! i think i may hafve found one! I won't name the author, leavoing to YOU, Shinobi, to expose this obvious example of the crime you have just condemned.

"Or saying things like "The essence of being a liberal: “The absolute conviction that there is one set of rules for you, and another, completely different set of rules for everyone else.” Really... no. Don't you agree that i have found a particularly aggregious example? It not only dismisses an opinion out of hand, but adds a gratuitous personal attack.

I must say, however, that i agree that the opinion is wrong. I would argue that it is not the case that the essence of being a liberal: “The absolute conviction that there is one set of rules for you, and another, completely different set of rules for everyone else. It is merely a cocurrent part of being a ;liberal, certainly NOT the essence.

So, you see, I agree with the quoted dismissive author, but have managed to delineate my disagreement (although i haven't argued for my claim) without the perrsonal attack.

I agree with you, shinobi, such dismissiveness and authors are not worthy of our time.

I should rephrase and say I don't see the point in dismissing out of hand the sensible opinions of anyone who disagrees with you. But to apply such blanket characteristics to an entire group of people which make up roughly half of the country... well... that doesn't seem sensible to me. But your argument is less of a blanket statement than Ann's and is possibly quite true. But I will respectfully point out that that there are probably some liberals for whom this is not true. Though, I don't know any personally, but I'm sure, probabilistically that someone somewhere happens to not fall under that catagory. But that might then mean that they are in essense not a liberal, so, then, you and Ann must have the right of it.

But that's hilarious that I contradicted myself in my own post though. What a douchebag I am. I proved her point for her didn't I. Awesome.

Also, I don't mind you posting here Av, you push me to do a better job. Though, it is clearly not working at the moment.
